Course for Teachers of Spoon Carving-Ashland

Course for Teachers of Spoon Carving-Ashland

April 19-21, 2019 in Ashland, WI

This course is a good foundation for those who want to start teaching spoon carving as well as for people who have taught before and want to develop their skills further.

We will cover the basics of knife grips, safety and first aid, tool maintenance, and aesthetics. We will get into pedagogy; how to organize lessons, teach different personality types, communicate clearly, stay open minded, and look at growth and fixed mindsets. Most importantly you will learn about your own strengths and limitations as a teacher and your skills as a carver and designer of spoons. Insurance, liability, and marketing will also be discussed.

Depending on your experience and skill level, you may not be ready to teach spoon carving after this course, however, Jarrod will make sure you know what you need to work on to get there.

This course draws upon Jarrod's 20+ years of experience as a professional woodworker and 15+ years teaching thousands of students traditional handcraft, including spoon carving. Jarrod’s CV here.
